On Day 1D, Court Harrington had Sorel “1mper1ium” Mizzi all but on his way out the door. Sorel was all in with 74 against Court’s overpair, but the dealer had to call him back to the table after making a four flush.
It’s amazing the difference one hand can make—Sorel just closed in on the chip lead after winning a 400k pot. He was in the back corner of the room staying quiet for most of the day, while chip leader Gus Hansen (425k) was battling several other big stacks at Table 25. Rain Kahn, directly to Gus’ right, was busy balancing his 400k+ plus stack after knocking out a player in Seat 1.
In a sure sign that live poker is rigged, Sorel’s table was broken immediately after he won that big pot; his new destination? Seat 1 at Table 25. Three of the four chip leaders are all seated together. There are a number of 200k-300k stacks at the table also.
It will be interesting to see how each player approaches this situation. With only two hours left in the night, will they play it safe and stay out of each other’s way? Will they go after each other or pick on the short stacks? Will they mix it up, trying to hit that one big hand?
Gus and “1mper1um” share a trademarked fearlessness that will likely (hopefully, even, at least for this reporter) lead to some impressive fireworks.

This photo was taken of Ron Hoffman on Day 2 of Event 37 ($2,000 Pot Limit Holdem) at the 2007 WSOP.
Prop bets were popular at the beginning of Event 39 ($50,000 HORSE). Mike Matusow, far left, turned someone down pulling out his last $100 and exclaiming, "He's not getting this one!" Gus Hansen and Doyle Brunson mapped out their prop bets on a sheet of paper and John D'Agostino took a look at a list of names that had been handed his way.

Since my last blog entry pretty much everything has gone straight to hell. I've lost at pretty much all forms of poker. No luck in the tournaments, losing a 127k pot online against Gus to a four-outer, being butchered by Roland de Wolfe and his never ending streak of bonus hands in Chinese poker and having the occasional Pai Gow accident as well. In short, with regards to poker, I've had nothing but misery to write about.
Life wasn't all bad though. My Pai Gow accidents had earned me a suite on the 57th floor at the Wynn and access to a super nice host named Michael. Since poker wasn't going too well I decided to take a day off. I called Michael and asked him to arrange a table at Tryst (Wynn's night club). At Tryst some kid came up to my and said that I was a hero in his world.
As I wasn't quite sure what I had done to deserve this recognition I kindly insisted that he should find himself a better role model. I suggested Phil Hellmuth. All in all we had a super solid night out, rediscovering the smoothness of Patron. Life still sucked but it was getting better.
After my day off I re-entered the Rio in better spirits. I was playing so much better after my break and made it to the dinner break with a decent stack and without drama.
During our dinner break I went to the VIP and found Phil Hellmuth practicing on the putting green. Phil insisted that we putt for 1k a putt, but I‚ve seen him putt every day for two weeks straight so Iwanted some kind of edge. After a couple of minutes of negotiating we agreed to putt ten putts at $500 at putt, with Phil putting one handed.
It seemed like a good deal to me, but this man has eleven bracelets, always plays above the rim and never breaks under pressure. I still liked my chances. Phil managed to sink one of his ten putts and when I sank six out of my ten Phil ended up losing $2,500. This had to be the sweetest 2.5k I ever won.
I then went on to play the 3k NL event and made it to Day 2 with a decent stack, as did Phil. Hopefully I can squeeze out a decent score form this event and post another happy blog entry tomorrow.
